
Are you complaining or creating your life?
It was 3am. Taylor left me 10 voice messages in a row.
In the span of a week, her easy new job where her boss told her to take it easy, suddenly became a nightmare when a crisis hit and all sh*t hit the fan.
Her boss called her at all hours in the evenings and weekends, even past midnight. It drove her crazy and her stress was at an all time high.
She complained to me about her boss, her incompetent colleague - the one who was so good at buttering up her boss, her long hours, and her suddenly crushing workload.
The only thing she didn’t complain about was the substantial raise she received with this new job.
The thing is, no matter which job, Taylor always ended up with a boss she didn’t get along with, and a huge workload.
This was the reason she hired me in the first place, to break this painful cycle.
We scheduled an emergency call that morning at 7 (she couldn’t sleep anyway).
By the end of the call, her voice lifted, she was at peace, and dare say, happy.
“What you said is true, Natalie. When your mindset shifts, the world can be a beautiful place.”
Why?
Because when you shift your mindset + you have the right strategy and action plan, you no longer need to be scared, frustrated, angry.
You no longer need to feel helpless, that you have no choice, that things are not under your control.
We all want things to be under your control.
And they can.
You can’t control your boss.
But you did choose him.
And now you know what (bum) deal you got - you can choose again.
To leave (not a good idea in this tough market)
Or
To change how you think and act.
When you change this, everything starts to change.
How you feel, your emotional state, is dictated by your thoughts.
The world, your world, can look completely different with a different mindset.
Don’t like how you feel?
Change your viewpoint, your mindset, aka your thoughts.
Your emotions, your stress levels, your happiness - how you feel is different with a different set of thoughts.
What was the key shift that Taylor made?
“Now I finally understand I was an idiot. I spent 90% of my energy on getting the work done, and 10% on managing my boss.
I spent my time hating, resenting and despising my boss because I thought he was the source of my misery.
When in fact everything I want - to get him off my back, to not have to overwork, to solidify my position at work - all I have to do is spend more time massaging managing him.
Once I change, my relationship with my boss changes, my situation changes - all for the better, in the way I want.”
Yes.
Only when you stop complaining and start focusing on what you can do, when you take charge
Suddenly you will find you are in control, and you can change the world to be your beautiful place.
