Success can be scary
I just finished a much-awaited annual birthday holiday with my boss (and husband) Edward.
Talk about employee benefits!
And I’m feeling Grateful.
In the midst of all the uncertainty in the world now
My family - we’re all healthy
My work is meaningful
My team is wonderful (both capable + likeable)
And as I reflect on what has brought us to where we are now as a family - our physical, mental and financial health - I see there are many angels who pointed me in the right direction, including my spiritual guide, my business coach Robb Gilbear, and others who have supported my journey along the way.
Pivots that in retrospect, came at exactly the right time, right place.
10 years ago, I was well established as a speaker and coach and “seemed” so successful.
When in reality, I was desperately finding my feet after being bled dry financially by my ex and trying to make my locally well-known but not-yet-profitable skincare business work.
I had to make a choice between my passion and what I saw was the scalable, proper business.
15 years ago, I faced a similar decision.
I had to make a choice between my passion and a proper corporate career in investment banking.
(And when I did leave, people said I was crazy to leave Goldman for… coaching?)
Both times, I knew what I wanted to do, but was too scared to do it.
So much change, so much fear.
In both critical moments, my mentor had to give me a shove.
I went with my passion, and here I am today.
Really?
Nah.
That’s what those gurus want you to believe.
So magical.
Success is a result of many small steps.
Many scary decisions.
Multiple unknowns.
One small step after another to figure out what works, and what doesn’t.
And especially, having the right mindset.
So that I’m ready for new opportunities when they come knocking.
One factor of success is your comfort level with failure.
If may not sound like much
But as I was growing up, I was beaten bloody for any small perceived infraction
And so finding the courage to fail forward, even now, sometimes is a big thing.
Is it a failure?
Is it a stepping stone to success?
Which is why I care so much about my clients
Helping you create that mindset
Identify and even create your opportunities
No matter what the situation or market.
And so as events continue to unfold, giving “change is the only constant” an entirely new interpretation, I’ve been asking myself this:
What can I be grateful for?
How can I turn change to opportunity?
How can I better support others like you, so you (and your family) can not only survive but discover your opportunities in these changing times?
