It took me 15 years to get to this point

It’s been 15 years since I left the corporate world to be a speaker and coach.

15 years that I have done my best to limit my work to being invited to speak at events, and getting work through word-of-mouth referrals.

Over these years, many people have come up to me after a talk and asked if they could sign up for my classes personally.

Up to now, except for one time around 2018, the answer was always “No.”

My reason (excuse) was perfectly reasonable.

Because it was too much hassle to market and organize the logistics for an event.

I convinced myself that focusing on corporate clients was the most efficient and profitable way to do what I loved.

But the real reason was, I was scared sh*tless.

Because it was one thing to have corporate clients come knocking on my door to hire me to speak and coach to their employees (B2B) – luckily, I was very successful at it and most of my work came through referrals.

It was an entirely different game to try and get many multiples of individual clients to hire me (B2C). I would need many, many clients.

And that triggered me.

Because my mother’s voice inside my head – and also in my face, since I moved back to live with her almost 3 years ago – was a constant in my head.

“Who would ever want you?”

“No one will ever want you.”

“You’re a loser.”

ON. CONSTANT. REPEAT.

Because of mom’s childhood scars, she sees me as her competitor.

And so to feel better about herself, she has to constantly find ways to take me down.

So my years of refusing to do my own group programs, whether in person or online, was not purely a business decision, it was to avoid triggering this voice.

The past few months have not only been lots of heavy lifting for me and our team to get this program put together and ready to launch

It’s also been an emotional journey for me.

It forced me to face my inner demons, that relentless voice that over the years keeps tearing me down, pushing me down, and making sure I never live up to my potential.
